Managed Services involves the outsourcing of defined IT departments or IT systems to an external service provider and the IT tasks are therefore performed by qualified personnel. This relieves the workload on the in-house IT department and, in some cases, saves expenses. The Managed Service Provider (MSP) usually operates from a distance with remote tools. Only in exceptional cases are technicians on site at the customer’s premises to remedy faults. Managed services are regular IT services whose scope and quality are agreed in advance by the service provider and the customer in a Service Level Agreement (SLA). The SLA regulates, for example, the response time in the event of faults, the services to be provided and the availability of IT systems. The Managed Service Provider assumes responsibility for the operation of the transferring IT systems. This means that the Managed Service Provider is responsible for monitoring, administration and problem solving.
